Statement by Congressman Rob Menendez on Israel Aid

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following his vote against the House GOP’s attempt to politicize aid to Israel, Congressman Rob Menendez released the following statement:

“For decades, support for our longstanding friendship with Israel and its people has been a bipartisan priority. Now, the House GOP is sending a message of disunity to the world while the lives of American and Israeli hostages hang in the balance. 

“Further, this legislation fails to live up to our historical support for Israel, while excluding critical humanitarian aid for Israelis and Palestinians. At the same time, it inflicts devastating cuts on Internal Revenue Service programs, which would both harm working families and increase our nation’s deficit. For these reasons, I voted no.

“I stand with Israel as well as Palestinian civilians who are victims of Hamas. And I look forward to supporting an emergency aid package that lives up to our bipartisan commitment to our allies and the well-being of innocent civilians.”
