Congressman Rob Menendez represents the place where he grew up and that he calls home, New Jersey's Eighth Congressional District. The District includes most of Hudson County, the East and North Wards of the City of Newark in Essex County, and the City of Elizabeth in Union County. He was first sworn in on January 3, 2023.
Rob was raised in Union City as the grandson of Cuban immigrants and strong union members, always understanding the spirit and value of public service and giving back to his community.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Rob served as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey — the first Latino from New Jersey and the first millennial to hold the role. As Chair of the Governance and Ethics Committee and a member of the Finance Committee, he helped oversee the agency’s multibillion-dollar budget and advance major infrastructure projects, including Newark Airport’s new Terminal A, the expansion of the PATH, and planning for a new Midtown Bus Terminal. An attorney, Rob previously worked at the national law firm of Lowenstein Sandler LLP.
A national leader on immigration reform, and the Vice Chair of Policy for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Rob proudly takes the stories of the hundreds of thousands of immigrant friends and neighbors in New Jersey to his fight in Washington. He is also strong proponent of increasing affordability, building climate resilient communities and infrastructure, increasing the supply of affordable housing, and investing in mass transit and transportation infrastructure - all issues that impact residents on a daily basis.
In his second term, Rob serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, as well as the Subcommittees on Energy, Environment, and Communications and Technology. He also serves as a Regional Whip for the House Democratic Caucus, a position that assists the Democratic Whip operation to track votes and legislation that will move the House Democrats’ agenda forward.
