The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a program that gives high school students across New Jersey's 8th Congressional District the opportunity to engage directly with Congressman Rob Menendez and learn more about the role of a congressional office while making their voices heard on issues affecting their communities.
Now entering its fourth year, the Youth Advisory Council brings together a diverse group of students from across the district for discussions with Congressman Menendez and his team, collaborative group projects, and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities. Participants also meet with the Washington, D.C. legislative team to gain an understanding of the legislative process and how federal policy is developed. They also meet with the district casework team to learn how congressional offices assist constituents in navigating federal agencies and resolving issues affecting their daily lives. Throughout the program, members develop leadership skills, strengthen civic engagement, and build connections with fellow students who share a commitment to serving their communities.
Applications for the 2026 - 2027 Youth Advisory Council will open on October 5, 2026, and close on December 18, 2026.
