Congressman Rob Menendez Appointed to the House Energy and Commerce Committee
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) released the following statement on his appointment to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee:
“It is an honor to have been chosen by my colleagues to serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This committee has broad jurisdiction in the House, giving our district a seat at the table to deliver real progress on the most urgent issues impacting our residents and people across the country – increasing access to healthcare, lowering the cost of living, growing our economy, protecting the environment, and supporting working families.
“New Jersey and the country are fortunate to have a strong, passionate leader on this committee in Ranking Member Frank Pallone. His leadership has moved our region and our nation forward, benefiting workers, families, the environment, and our economy – and can best be measured by the countless lives that have been touched by his steadfast advocacy. It is an immense privilege to be able to join him in this work and to learn from such an accomplished and dedicated colleague and friend.”
Established in 1795, the Energy and Commerce Committee is the oldest continuous standing committee in the House of Representatives. Today, the committee has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in Congress, legislating on healthcare, health insurance, the environment, energy policy, telecommunications, privacy, cybersecurity, consumer protection, travel and tourism, interstate and foreign commerce, and other areas.
