Congressman Rob Menendez Announces Over $1.3 Million in FEMA Funding for Elizabeth Fire Department Headquarters Repairs
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Rob Menendez today announced over $1.3 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding for repairs to damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida to the City of Elizabeth’s Fire Department Headquarters.
“The FEMA funding we are announcing today will not only fund the restoration of Elizabeth’s Fire Headquarters, but will also help protect it from future storms," said Congressman Menendez. “Under the leadership of President Biden and Mayor Bollwage, Elizabeth’s first responders are being supported with federal dollars to ensure that they can continue their essential service to residents of the City, while providing relief to local taxpayers.”
"I met with President Biden shortly after the storm, and he promised FEMA help for the disaster in Elizabeth,” said Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “The City thanks Congressman Menendez as well as Senators Menendez and Booker for their diligent follow up as well as the numerous visits by FEMA personnel assisting our City.”
The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused severe damage to Elizabeth’s Fire Department Headquarters, flooding the building with up to five feet of water and extensively damaging portions of the facility.
This $1,302,302.81 grant will cover 90% of Elizabeth’s costs to restore the facility and complete flood mitigation improvements to minimize and prevent damage in the case of future severe weather events.
