Statement by Rep. Menendez on Vote to Keep Rep. Ilhan Omar on the House Foreign Affairs Committee

“Let me be clear, I unequivocally support Rep. Ilhan Omar’s right to be seated on the Committees that our Caucus voted for her to serve on. Rep. Omar was duly elected by her constituents to serve her district, which requires that she have a voice on her Committees, including Foreign Affairs.

“It is disappointing but not surprising that the House GOP has decided to use Rep. Omar as a target for their animosity and disdain for people who are different than they are, and I will never stand for that. While Rep. Omar and I will not always agree on every issue, we will always stand together as part of a strong and dynamic Democratic Caucus that is inclusive of a diversity of experiences and views. I am proud to be a part of a unified Caucus that stands behind our colleague – Rep. Omar.”
