WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rob Menendez released the following statement today after the the States of New Jersey and New York, and the Gateway Development Commission took legal action against the Trump Administration to secure the release of contractually-obligated grant and loan funds for the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP):
“Trump’s illegal funding freeze is clear retaliation against Democratic lawmakers, with no regard to the severe economic damage that is being caused by his political games. The integrity of our commuter rail infrastructure is at risk and so are tens of thousands of union jobs. This Administration cannot freeze congressionally appropriated funding with no justification, and we support Governor Sherrill, the State of New York, and the Gateway Development Commission in any effort to restore this funding before the largest critical infrastructure project in the country is halted, the safety of commuters is put at risk, and jobs are lost.”
