Today, Congressman Rob Menendez (NJ-08) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's announcement that they are withholding funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project:
"Let’s be clear about the Trump Administration’s decision to withhold funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project: it’s blatantly political, and it’s going to harm our economy, our workers, and our constituents.
"On day one of the Republican Shutdown, the Administration is trying to bend Democratic leaders into submission — but it is the American people who will pay the price. Because the Hudson Tunnel Project isn’t just another infrastructure project: it is the largest investment in public transit infrastructure in our nation’s history, investing billions into our economy and creating tens of thousands of jobs. The work is well underway, with major milestones already met — many of which are in our district.
"The Trump Administration isn’t even trying to hide the fact that they are playing political games and jeopardizing this critical project. It’s completely unacceptable, and we’ll fight it with everything we’ve got."
