Congressman Rob Menendez Applauds Start of Construction on Hudson Tunnel Project in New Jersey
NORTH BERGEN, NJ – Following his participation in a ceremony to mark the start of construction on the Hudson Tunnel Project in New Jersey, Congressman Rob Menendez applauded the significant progress being made on the Gateway Program.
“The start of work on the Hudson Tunnel Project in New Jersey is a significant milestone for commuters in the Eighth Congressional District and throughout the region,” said Congressman Menendez. “Under the leadership of the Biden Administration and New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation, the Gateway Program has seen billions of dollars in new federal funding, bringing our residents closer to a completely revamped rail experience. I look forward to continuing our work to secure further transformational investments that will reduce commuting times and modernize our passenger rail infrastructure.”
Congressman Menendez joined federal, state, and local leaders in North Bergen to commemorate the start of work on the Tonnelle Avenue Bridge and Utility Relocation Project, a component of the Hudson Tunnel Project. This work will establish a right-of-way for the new Northeast Corridor alignment under Tonnelle Avenue, provide access to tunnel boring machines, and enable further construction on the new Hudson Tunnels.
This work has been made possible by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, through which New Jersey’s Congressional Delegation secured a $25 million federal grant, which Congressman Menendez wrote to the United States Department of Transportation to support in February. Work is expected to conclude within two years.
