Congressman Rob Menendez Passes Amendment to Advocate for Robust Funding of Anti-Terrorism Measures
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Rob Menendez introduced an amendment to H.R. 4367, The Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2024, advocating for robust funding for critical anti-terrorism measures.
“The Eighth Congressional District contains what homeland security experts call the most dangerous two miles in America, making it essential to ensure that our chemical facilities are adequately protected,” said Congressman Rob Menendez. “I will continue to strongly advocate for robust funding for the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards program to keep critical industrial infrastructure and surrounding communities safe from any threats.”
Congressman Menendez’s amendment supports Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program funding to improve training of facility inspectors and support security at high-risk chemical facilities. The amendment was adopted by the House of Representatives last night.
Serving on the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Menendez previously worked to pass a reauthorization of the CFATS program in July, which has expired. The Senate has yet to reauthorize this critical national security program.
During the Committee’s markup earlier this year, Congressman Menendez offered an amendment (link) to the CFATS program during the House Committee on Homeland Security’s markup in July. His earlier amendment – which was voted down along party lines – would have required key training improvements for CFATS facility inspectors.
